Arytenoid Muscle System OR Chest

The Arytenoid Muscle System produces a texture of sound that some would call chest voice, and is responsible for:

  1. keeping the cords thick so as to create the lowest pitches,
  2. closing the cords as the pitch rises,
  3. increasing and decreasing volume, and
  4. defining the vowel initially.

This muscle system is responsible for all vocal jobs – except for pitch regulation with the exception of the very lowest pitches.
